On October 11, “IDGAF” debuted at #1 in streams on the Apple Music and Spotify charts. The new banger off Drake’s latest album, “For All the Dogs,” features controversial rapper Yeat on a beat by famed producer BNYX. Despite the success, the song and the album have received significant criticism online.
“I thank god for this life and not having to come to rushed conclusions on Best Buy podcast mics,” asserted the Toronto legend in an Instagram caption on Monday.
Drake directed the sneak-diss at hip-hop influencer Joe Budden for the comments he made on his podcast. On episode 664 of “Joe Budden TV,” the former rapper gave his opinions on the new album.
“Overall, I do like the album… but I was let down,” He began. “I have to let go of Drake… the Drake that I love was the best hook creator, maker, loaner outer of in the world; what is the last memorable hook you heard from Drake?” Budden continued “He rappin’ for the children… you will be 37 year old, get the f— away from some of these younger n—–.”
The younger talents that Budden refers to are some of the features on the album, including Yeat (23), Sexyy Red (25), and Lil Yachty (26). Drake also spent plenty of time getting friendly with popular streamers, like Kai Cenat and Adin Ross, the latter of whom Drake rented out a Dave and Buster’s for. The two streamers are known for their massive popularity among children and teens.
Drake clapped back at the criticism in a lengthy Instagram comment under a video posted by DJ Akademics. “For any artist watching this just remember you are watching a failure give their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success… a quitter give their opinion on how to achieve longevity,” said Drake, replying to Budden’s criticisms on acting his age.
Despite the criticism, the Toronto rapper has succeeded by surrounding himself with up-and-coming stars. “IDGAF” currently stands in first place with about 2.4 million streams on Spotify’s “Top 50 – USA” playlist, followed by two more tracks from the new album, “First Person Shooter,” and “Virginia Beach.” On Apple Music, the entire album appears on “Top 100: USA.”
