Blue Ivy Carter Earns First Grammy Nomination

Blue Ivy is officially a Grammy nominee.

The daughter of Beyoncé and JAY-Z earns her first Grammy nomination for “Brown Skin Girl,” which was recognized in the Best Music Video category. When the nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards were announced last month, her name did not appear on the nominees list, but the Grammys recently updated its website to include the eight-year-old, reports The Associated Press.

Wizkid, who appears on the song and in the video, was also added to the nominees, but SAINt JHN–who is featured on the track but does not appear in the video–was still not listed as a nominee.

Blue contributes vocals and is credited as a co-writer of the empowering track, which appears on Beyoncé’s 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift. The visual, which features cameos from Kelly Rowland and Naomi Campbell, was also included in Beyoncé’s Disney+ film Black Is King.

Blue, who will turn nine on Jan. 7, becomes one of the youngest Grammy nominees in history, according to Billboard. At eight years old, Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters is the youngest Grammy nominee and winner for her contribution to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, which won Album of the Year in 2001.

In the Best Music Video category, the other Grammy nominees include Future and Drake’s “Life Is Good,” Anderson .Paak’s “Lockdown,” Harry Styles’ “Adore You,” and Woodkid’s “Goliath.”

This is the latest accolade for Blue. “Brown Skin Girl” also won her two Soul Train Music Awards, a BET Award, and a NAACP Image Award this year.

Beyoncé leads with nine nominations at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, which will take place Jan. 31.
