Cardi B’s style evolution has been extensively documented, showcasing her journey from launching her first collection with Fashion Nova in 2018 to gracing the runway of Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2024 show in 2023, establishing herself as a fashion icon.
Despite her success in high fashion, Cardi B has faced challenges along the way, as revealed in a recent feature story for The Hollywood Reporter on March 27. Cardi and her stylist, Kollin Carter, reflected on some of her standout looks and the trail she has blazed for women in Hip Hop.
Discussing Cardi’s iconic 2019 Met Gala outfit, Carter emphasized its impact, stating, “That look propelled Cardi B to the next level in the fashion world, earning recognition from those who previously doubted us.” The duo collaborated on another striking ensemble for the 2022 event, featuring a gold Versace dress. In 2023, Cardi stunned in a black quilted gown by designer Chen Peng, adorned with large black roses, paying homage to Karl Lagerfeld and incorporating Chanel elements.
Cardi B candidly addressed the challenges faced due to her body shape, asserting, “This body is not meant for a size two. I embrace my curves; that’s who I am. It wasn’t easy, but we make it look effortless. Despite facing closed doors, we persevered and excelled. I’m proud of our journey.” Carter added, “We have consistently delivered unique looks, delving into exclusive archives. We have influenced a cultural shift, showcasing what’s achievable. Cardi has paved the way for women in fashion, inspiring a new generation of female rappers to explore the fashion space and set trends.”
