The Weeknd Enlists Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan for ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Film

The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye, is set to make his film debut in a psychological thriller titled Hurry Up Tomorrow, which shares its name with his upcoming album. The announcement was made on November 4, 2024, revealing that Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan will co-star alongside him. The film will be directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for his work on Waves.

Lionsgate has acquired global distribution rights for the film, which is anticipated to be a musically driven project that complements the album of the same name. The Weeknd will collaborate with Daniel Lopatin to create the film’s score. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the film is expected to expand the narrative universe established in The Weeknd’s previous albums, After Hours and Dawn FM.

Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating that The Weeknd is a visionary artist whose creativity transcends traditional boundaries. He emphasized that Hurry Up Tomorrow will offer fans a new cinematic experience.

The film is produced by The Weeknd’s company, Manic Phase, in partnership with Reza Fahim and the late Kevin Turen. It features an executive production team that includes Jenna Ortega and Trey Edward Shults. As for the plot details, they remain under wraps, but the film promises to deliver a unique psychological thriller experience.

This project follows a trend among hip-hop and R&B artists venturing into film. Recently, Megan Thee Stallion released a documentary detailing her personal challenges, while Ye announced a documentary titled In Whose Name?, expected to premiere in 2025 with a staggering budget of $1 billion.
