City Girls officially announced an indefinite hiatus earlier this year, with Yung Miami attributing the decision to the disappointing sales of their third studio album, RAW, and the growing success of their solo careers. In a recent interview with Complex on August 9, Miami expressed that the split was a mutual decision, saying, “I think it made sense for both of us. I really feel like it just made sense for us and it was no hard feelings.”
Miami likened her connection to the group to Tina Turner’s enduring legacy, stating, “I’m still a City Girl. I need my name. That’s the biggest thing about me; I can’t ever get away from being a City Girl.” She emphasized that despite their separation, there were no hard feelings, and both members recognized the need for this change.
Tensions between the duo became public in April when Miami accused JT of making subliminal remarks about her in the songs “No Bars” and “Sideways,” leading to a series of exchanges before they reconciled privately. Miami shared her thoughts on the conflict during her show, Caresha Please, explaining her preference for resolving issues privately rather than airing them online, which she believes invites public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, JT’s solo project, City Cinderella, released in July, received positive feedback and featured collaborations with DJ Khaled, Stunna Girl, CLIP, and Jeezy. Both artists are now focusing on their individual careers while maintaining their identities as part of City Girls.
