Camila Cabello has defended her collaborator Drake amid his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar. In an interview with The Times, Cabello expressed frustration at the negative way people have been talking about Drake, saying “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a way that is negative. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.'”
Cabello revealed that she reached out to Drake directly via DM to collaborate on her latest album ‘C,XOXO,’ which features two tracks with the Canadian rapper. She described the experience as “like a weird teenage thing where I feel that nobody cares about me or likes me. And it was fun to be proven wrong.”
Some fans have found Cabello’s defense of Drake ironic, given her own past controversies around racial insensitivity. One fan commented, “Someone finally came to Drake’s defense, and it’s a white woman who had a racist Tumblr. Tracks!” Another fan noted the humor in “Drake dissing Kendrick Lamar for doing songs with Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift and then coming out of the battle to do multiple songs with Camila Cabello.”
Despite the criticism, Cabello remains supportive of her collaborator. After the album’s release, Drake posted on Instagram thanking Cabello, to which she excitedly replied “Dialed in, twin!” However, there are reports that Cabello’s song with Drake was initially meant to drop during the height of his feud with Lamar, but Drake allegedly held it back “out of fear.”
