Friday, March 22, marked a significant day in the world of Hip Hop, with fans buzzing on social media about a photo of Drake leaving a club wearing wired headphones and looking defeated. Speculation arose that he was listening to Kendrick Lamar’s diss track on Future and Metro Boomin’s latest album.
Since the release of “WE DON’T TRUST YOU,” fans have been analyzing each track, particularly focusing on “Like That” featuring Kendrick Lamar. In this verse, Lamar subtly targets Drake, referring to him as the “Rich Baby Daddy” rapper and asserting, “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Motherfk the big three, nga, it’s just big me.” He concludes with a sharp reference to Drake’s album “For All The Dogs,” stating, “N**ga, bum, ‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”
Although Lamar’s verse seemed unexpected, this isn’t the first time he has taken shots at Drake. In a BET cypher back in 2013, Lamar rapped, “And nothing’s been the same since they dropped ‘Control’/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes/ Ha-ha, jokes on you,” a clever play on Drake’s album title.
Recent photos of Drake in Miami have sparked reactions from fans, with one mentioning, “That Kendrick diss made him age 20 years more,” and another noting, “Bro definitely heard Kendrick cooking him; you can see the look on his face.”
Despite the buzz, neither Drake nor J. Cole has publicly responded to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Like That.”
