Normani is back with her first release of 2022.
The R&B songstress debuts her stunning new single “Fair.” Produced by HARV, the sultry ’90s-inspired jam finds a vulnerable Normani trying to get over a breakup.
“Is it fair that you moved on? / ‘Cause I swear that I haven’t / Is it right that you’ve grown / And I’m still stuck in habits?” she sings over the pulsing rhythm.
The song required Normani to step out of her comfort zone. “This song really captures me in one of my most vulnerable moments,” she explained. “Sharing this record makes me uncomfortable because you have never really seen me in this light.”
She continued, “Definitely aware that you might feel like you don’t know much about me but that’s only because it’s what makes me feel protected. I am really forcing myself to let go here. This is huge for me and hopefully this piece of art resonates.”
“Fair” follows the Cardi B-assisted “Wild Side” and arrives ahead of Normani’s long-awaited debut album, which is nearing completion. “Believe me the uptempo shit is coming lmaooo,” she promised fans.
Tonight, she will perform “Fair” for the first time on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
