Chris Brown is sharing his unreleased Kanye West collaboration.
Following the release of DONDA last Sunday, the R&B superstar blasted Ye for taking him off the album. Chris’ backing vocals were originally featured on the song “New Again,” but that version was quickly pulled from streaming services.
Chris took to Instagram to slam Ye for cutting his verse from the track. “Kanye a whole hoe,” Brown wrote in a since-deleted IG Story. In another post, he added, “Nah he tweakin.”
According to The Shade Room, Chris “was a little heated about his verse being removed from one of the songs on the new album.”
Now, a week after the release of DONDA, Chris decided to leak his version of “New Again.” He uploaded a minute-long snippet of the “reference mix,” on which he is prominently featured.
Fans had a mixed reaction after hearing the unreleased version, which contains sexually-explicit lyrics from Chris. “This would’ve [been] the best song on the album smh,” tweeted one fan, while another defended Ye. “I can honestly see why Ye took it off. It’s great, but does it fit New Again?”
In the wake of the drama, Ye reportedly reached out to Chris to smooth things over. “It wasn’t intentional but Ye is a producer, so his job is to find the best parts in the music and add it to his creative process,” Kanye’s manager Bu Thiam told TMZ. “Chris is a very passionate artist but they’ll figure it out. They’re just creatives having their beefs and shit like that. But it’s all good…Chris is family to us.”
