Tyler, the Creator’s new album Call Me If You Get Lost arrived Friday along with an apology to Selena Gomez.
On track No. 9, “Manifesto” featuring Domo Genesis, Tyler reveals that he apologized to the pop star following a series of inappropriate tweets about her in 2010 and 2011. At the time, an 18-year-old Gomez was dating Justin Bieber, who was good friends with Tyler.
“I was a teener, tweetin’ Selena crazy shit / Didn’t wanna offend her, apologize when I seen her / Back when I was tryna f**k Bieber, Justin,” he raps.
Selena and Justin dated on and off between 2011 and 2018.
Many of Tyler’s explicit tweets about Gomez have since been deleted, but some still remain on his timeline.
In a 2013 interview with Power 106, the Odd Future rapper opened up about his fallout with the “Wolves” singer. “We don’t really get along. She don’t like me,” he said. “We don’t like each other ’cause [I’m] kicking it with Justin, like that’s my homeboy. She always be mean muggin’ me. Like why are you hating on me?”
Selena Gomez has not responded to Tyler’s apology.
Call Me If You Get Lost, the follow-up to 2019’s IGOR, also features appearances from Lil Wayne, NBA YoungBoy, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrell.
