Snoop Dogg Criticizes Cardi B’s ‘WAP’

Snoop Dogg is in the dog house for his comments about Cardi B’s “WAP.”

During an interview with Julissa Bermudez on Central Ave (via XXL), the West Coast icon shared his thoughts on Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s controversial single.

He continued, “To me it’s like, it’s too fashionable when that in secrecy, that should be a woman’s…that’s like your pride and possession. That’s your jewel of the Nile. That’s what you should hold onto. That should be a possession that no one gets to know about until they know about it.”

Snoop admitted that the song may appeal to his 21-year-old daughter, but it makes him feel uneasy as a 49-year-old father. “My daughter is from a different era, though,” Snoop said. “She’s from this era. She may be doing the ‘WAP’ or apart of the ‘WAP’ and I can’t be mad at her ’cause it’s her generation, you know what I’m saying. But, at the same time, the things that I would rather see, you know, ’cause I’m an older man.”

In his youth, Snoop may have felt differently. “Now, when I was young, 21, 22, I may have been with the movement. I probably would have been on the remix,” he added. “But as an older man, I love it that they’re expressing themselves and they’re doing their thing, I just don’t want it that fashionable to where young girls feel like they can express themselves like that without even knowing that that is a jewel that they hold onto until the right person comes around.”

He received backlash on social media from those who noted Snoop’s own history of raunchy and misogynistic songs like “Ain’t No Fun (If the Homies Can’t Have None)” and “Bitches Ain’t Shit.”

When “WAP” was released, it received criticism for its provocative lyrics, but Cardi and Meg were quick to point out that male rappers have been doing the same thing for years.
