Russel Westbrook’s first signature shoe is finally releasing this month. The reigning MVP officially releases his Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 in the first wave of colorways on January 15. A signature shoe has been quite overdue for the triple-double machine and with the Brodie signing a 10-year multi-million extension with Jordan Brand this past September, the sneaker market just got more interesting.
Westbrook is the highest paid Jordan Brand athlete ever. Not to mention that he also signed a $200-million dollar contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder for five years.
The Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 combines a lot of the Brodie’s current swag on an off the court and the early 2000’s “Team Jordan” designs. With sleek lines, hard corners, and futuristic look, the Why Not Zer0.1 looks to bring a fresh new change to the lacking basketball market that we have today.
Equipped with a velcro strap around the ankle provides easy access for those who want to jump onto the court right away. However, it has been known that non-traditional sneakers without a tongue will become a chore to put on. The upper is done in a synthetic overlay while sitting atop a fuse upper allowing rigid support and durability. Around the heel is a foam base heel counter allowing extra support for the heel for it to rest during the game. As we know, Russel Westbrook is arguable the most explosive player in the league so ankle support is definitely a priority for a player like him. Traction looks great with a multi-directional patterned herringbone for complete coverage.
What is most interesting about the sneaker however, is the full-length bottom loaded Zoom unit that is seen in the “Mirror’ colorway that you can view below. Priced at $125.00 USD, this sneaker should definitely be on your hoop rotation wish list because this doesn’t happen often, especially a signature sneaker from Jordan Brand. You do have the option of the Nike Paul George or Kyrie Irving sneakers priced just a bit lower than these, but with a big more cash you get full-length Zoom. Do keep in mind that just because a sneaker has full-length, doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll perform better. However, most hoopers do prefer the full-length Zoom.
