Chicago’s rising rap artist, Adrian Jose, has unleashed their experimentally interstellar 5-track EP, ‘Astronomical’; for trap fans, it should be as exciting as NASA’s Mars rover landing.
Track 1, Astronomical Freestyle, is an ambient introduction to the EP that exhibits the candid nature of Adrian Jose’s lyricism and the authenticity in their instrumental style that makes the release feel even more personal. As intimate thoughts relay, layers of spacey trap weave a psychedelic tapestry.
The following tracks raise the tempo, but they never allow Adrian Jose’s innovative grip on contemporary hip hop to slip away. The Astronomical EP explores their own experience as a teenager and a key worker contending with the isolation, frustration and exhaustion during the pandemic. Yet, a sincere sense of compassion runs through the EP, making it all too easy to find a connection in the meditatively urban release, produced by Yng Shaq and mixed by Cash Paradox.
Any fans of Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean or Lil Baby will want to pay serious attention to Adrian Jose’s latest release.
