Wale and Pusha T have teamed up for a new single titled “Damage Control,” which is part of a forthcoming Culture Jam album curated by NBA star Anthony Edwards. The track, produced by Don Cannon, features the two rappers trading bars over spirited horns and marching drums. Pusha T uses the platform to deliver pointed lyrics aimed at his longtime adversaries Birdman and Drake, referencing ongoing tensions connected to past industry conflicts.
Culture Jam, a creative studio founded by Eesean Bolden, is preparing to release the compilation Culture Jam Presents: Legend In My Hood. This project follows 2021’s Culture Jam album curated by NBA star Kawhi Leonard, with Edwards now taking the lead. Bolden highlighted the partnership’s alignment with Culture Jam’s focus on authentic storytelling at the intersection of sports and entertainment, praising Anthony Edwards and his brother AnTony for their inspiring story and involvement.
Wale teased “Damage Control” on Instagram prior to its release, featuring Edwards to add an extra layer of enthusiasm. On the track, Wale delivers compelling verses alongside Pusha T’s sharp bars. Pusha’s references include shots at Birdman, with lines like “All I hear is birds, that’s just words in the booth,” and subtle critiques targeting Drake, who is currently suing Universal Music Group concerning issues with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” The feud between Pusha T and Birdman dates back to Clipse’s fallout with Cash Money Records artist Lil Wayne.
Despite the heated lyrics directed at others, Wale and Pusha T maintain a strong friendship, having collaborated previously on tracks such as “Only You Can Tell It” from Pusha T’s Wrath of Caine mixtape and “The Deep End” from Wale’s Festivus mixtape. The release of “Damage Control” continues to draw attention as fans anticipate the full Culture Jam album curated by Edwards.
