On May 13, Kendrick Lamar achieved his second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song of the year with “Not Like Us.” This success followed his feature on “Like That,” a collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin that topped the charts in April.
“Not Like Us” adds to Lamar’s list of chart-topping singles, including “HUMBLE.” in 2017 and Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” in 2015. Additionally, his track “euphoria,” aimed at rival Drake, climbed to No. 3 from No. 11.
The song “Not Like Us” garnered 70.9 million streams and 15,000 traditional sales, displacing Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight” from the top spot. This track, along with “euphoria,” is part of a series of diss tracks in Lamar and Drake’s ongoing feud, sparking a viral challenge on social media.
In his lyrics, Lamar takes shots at Drake, referencing him as a “Certified pedophile” and questioning his actions. The feud between the two artists has led to the release of multiple tracks like “6:16 in LA” and “meet the grahams” from Lamar, and responses from Drake with songs like “Push Ups,” “Taylor Made Freestyle,” “Family Matters,” and “THE HEART PART 6.”
As “Not Like Us” dominates the charts, fans and industry experts are eager to see if it will maintain its No. 1 position on the Hot 100. Drake’s “Push Ups” had a brief stint in the Top 10, impacted by an early online leak.
