Travis Scott and Live Nation have settled nine out of the ten wrongful death lawsuits related to the tragic Astroworld Festival crowd crush nearly three years after the event. During a recent court hearing on May 8, Live Nation’s lawyer, Neal Manne, disclosed that all but one of the legal claims had been resolved. The remaining lawsuit involves the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of the concert tragedy, with discussions about the trial scheduled for next week. The terms of the settlements remain confidential due to a gag order, prohibiting further comments from attorneys on the case.
The Astroworld disaster occurred on November 5, 2021, at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, during a performance promoting Scott’s third studio album, ASTROWORLD. The incident led to eight immediate deaths, with two more individuals succumbing to their injuries in the hospital. This legal development followed a delay in the first civil suit due to an appeal from Apple on May 2, arguing for protection under free speech rights for livestreaming the concert. Scott was initially set to stand trial on May 6.
Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite expressed concerns about the safety of attendees, particularly children near the stage barricades, following the second annual Astroworld Festival in 2019. Scott is gearing up for his “UTOPIA: CIRCUS MAXIMUS TOUR” in the U.K. and Europe starting in June, with planned stops in cities like Prague, Cologne, Milan, and Hamburg.
