Ice Spice Jokes About Being Responsible for Earthquake in New York City Metropolitan Area

On Friday, April 5, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake centered near Lebanon, New Jersey, shook the New York City metropolitan area and was felt as far away as Maine and Washington, D.C. The earthquake struck at approximately 10:23 a.m. and caused buildings to shake across the Tri-State Area, prompting widespread concern online.

The earthquake was the strongest to hit the East Coast since 2011, and its effects were felt in New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. While some people took to social media to joke about the incident, others highlighted the potential dangers and risks associated with earthquakes.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the significance of the earthquake on Twitter, stating that she had directed state agencies to survey potentially vulnerable infrastructure to ensure it was safe. At the time of her statement, there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Ice Spice, a rapper from the Bronx, jokingly apologized for the earthquake on Twitter, saying, “My bad for the earthquake, y’all. [You know] this a** be clappin’.” While some fans found the tweet amusing, others criticized her for making light of a potentially dangerous situation.

In March, Ice Spice had made headlines for seemingly apologizing to a social media user who accused her of wearing the same outfit back to back following the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. The rapper had attended the event in a sheer gown adorned with lace from Dolce & Gabbana.

The earthquake in New Jersey was a rare event for the East Coast and served as a reminder of the potential dangers and risks associated with natural disasters. While some people found humor in the situation, others recognized the seriousness of the incident and the potential for harm.
