Exclusive interview with PGmaineee

Today we had an exclusive chance to interview PGmaineee:

What is your legal name and age?

My name is Roberto Gomez and I am 26 years old.

How did you come up with your stage name?

PG is actually a nickname that was given to me when I was younger and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I added the “maineee” part to give it a more eye engaging touch.

Where are you from?

I was born in Houston, TX and raised in Baytown, TX.

Where are you now?

I’m currently still living in Baytown, TX at the moment.

Why did you first start making music?

I started doing music in 2015 and began to do it professionally about two years ago and really focused on it as a career last year.

Who would you say inspired you the most as an artist?

It’s kind of difficult to just say one person inspired me to be an artist because everybody I listen to, I listen to them for different reasons; Some to get me hype, others to fill my soul, others just for the vibe of the song. But to name a few it would have to be, Eminem, J. Cole, Biggie, Z-Ro.

Talk me through your creative process.

My creative process has to start with complete silence. Alone in a room in the dark with a little bit of light shining and only the beat playing thru some speakers. After I listen to the beat a couple times I have to change the scenario and put on my headphones that way, it’s literally just me, my music, and my thoughts. After that I drift away in my head and the vowels started coming out of me.

What was the inspiration behind your latest single, “Stress”?

My single, “Stress”, was inspired by me becoming an artist. I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to be an upcoming artist and trying to get your peers to see you as an artist rather than just a friend from back in the day. As an artist, exposure is an ultimate key, so when you’re throwing your neck out there trying to get attention and no one bites into it, it can really ruin your self esteem and confidence.

Do you remember the first rhyme you wrote?

I don’t remember my first rhyme but I do remember when I was in middle school I used to write my own lyrics to other artist beats or I would actually try to make a better bar than the person that was on the song.

What environment do you work best in, and how does that look?

I really work best when I feel like everybody in the room is actually participating and throwing some ideas in the cloud. I actually perform a lot better as well when I get the crowd to engage and participate with me.

It’s been said before many times that for some musicians, their best music is created while they’re in a time of desperation, or depression. Do you feel that this is the case for you as an artist?

I completely agree with the saying. Some of my best songs actually came in times of when my depression was hitting me at my highest or I felt like I wasn’t accomplishing anything musically wise and I was desperate to make at least one good song, and thru the pain and eagerness I actually created some gems.
