Exclusive Interview with Kunte Kente

Modern hip hop has more than enough rappers gunning for the throne, but some, like rising rapper Kunte Kente actually have what it takes.

Born in Gary, Indiana, Kunte Kente was raised in the city of Syracuse, New York. As he grew through his experiences in life, he would be introduced to the world of rap through legendary hip hop duo, EPMD. That became the spark that lit the fuse that would blow up into a career of his own. In time, Kunte Kente would become more passionate in his craft after gaining inspiration through the influences of legends like Tupac and Scarface. While many drew to the thug side of their persona’s, Kunte Kente was more concerned with the humanitarian motivations that made each a rapper like no other. Some of his most treasured albums are “Strictly For My Niggaz” by Tupac, “It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot” by the late DMX, “I Wish My Brother George Was Here” by Del The Funkee Homosapian, and any album from Scarface. Safe to say he’s well cultured in the genre.

Kunte Kente would make the move to Norwich, Connecticut to further expand his fanbase and rising career. He would develop a style that captivated audiences with its cadence. His songs originate from deep emotions and experiences through life, giving fans a taste of substance within his music.

Today we had an exclusive chance to interview the rapper:

How did you come up with a stage name?
I wanted a name that symbolized me not being defied by industry rules just being free.

Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
The artist I am most inspired by are Tupac and Scarface not for the thug side, but the humane side.

Where and how do you work best?
I tend to work best as the beat is playing I rehearse in my head over and over, then write it down.

What is still your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is self doubt. I immediately feel like I am the odd one in the room.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I call my music life music.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
The artist I would like to work with is Scarface from the Ghetto boys.

If you could only listen to 3 albums for the rest of your life, what would they be?
The three albums I would listen to forever is any album by Scarface, ‘Strictly for my niggaz’ by Tupac and ‘it’s dark and hell is hot’ by DMX… and in case one of these albums not available then I would have wished my brother George was here by Del the Funkee Homosapian…

What are you focusing your time on now?
I am starting my own online record label called Daviana Entertainment.
