Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the masterminds behind “South Park,” are teaming up with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free for an upcoming live-action comedy slated for release on July 4, 2025. This collaboration, announced in 2022, will delve into the story of a young Black man who uncovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors were once slave owners. Paramount CEO Brian Robbins expressed his enthusiasm for the project, hailing the script as exceptionally funny and original, promising an explosive impact when it premieres in theaters.
Additionally, Lamar and Free’s pgLang, established in 2020, are actively involved in the film’s production. Despite initial assumptions that pgLang would solely focus on music after Lamar’s departure from TDE, the company has expanded its scope through various collaborations. In 2021, pgLang partnered with Calvin Klein to create eight short films penned by Free, featuring appearances by notable figures like Baby Keem, Travis Bennett, and others. In 2023, the company joined forces with tech giant Light to introduce the Light Phone II.
pgLang’s mission statement emphasizes its multilingual approach, engaging with diverse forms of expression such as music, film, television, art, books, and podcasts to convey compelling stories that resonate across different cultures and generations. The company’s creative team, including writers, singers, directors, musicians, and producers, embraces challenges and unconventional methods to bring innovative ideas to life.
Recently, Lamar achieved his third No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the track “Like That,” a collaboration with Metro Boomin and Future, underscoring his continued success in the music industry.
