Once the target of labels and nicknames due his cleft lip and palate, YCS Money’s path to rap stardom is a story for the ages. Peers called him “class clown,” now crowds shout his name. YCS Money held his own through a life of hardships and tragedies. Feeling like the odd one growing up due to his physical differences, YCS Money found solace in comedic rap music by lyricists like Lil Dicky. The artform became his outlet to express his personality. With the passing of time, his dedication grew deeper, venturing further into the world of music.
We had an exclusive chance to interview the artist:
Raptology: When did you first start making music?
YCS Money: Junior year of high school when I linked up with my homie/brother YCS Pressi.
Raptology: Who would you say inspired you the most, as an artist?
YCS Money: Mac Miller, Tee Grizzley, Cam Meekins (s/o Eminem and Kodak Black).
Raptology: Where and how do you work best?
YCS Money: My home studio I built with the help of my dad. Just lock me and YCS Pressi in there and that shit just happens.
Raptology: What’s the best advice you ever received?
YCS Money: One of the people I admire most in my life is my high school basketball coach, Todd Mulvaney. His advice simply put: “Stay hungry”.
Raptology: What’s your latest release?
YCS Money: “$LOBS” is my latest release being my third song on all platforms and having shot my second music video for it. I’m very happy with how it’s come along. I absolutely fuck with this song!
Raptology: What’s your best advice for handling criticism?
YCS Money: There’s always gonna be people tryna help you improve and haters… you gotta know how to separate the two and accept the feedback from the ones that are in your corner.
Raptology: What are you focusing your time on now?
YCS Money: Really just focusing on releasing singles and growing my fan base. I have so many great songs in the vault!
Raptology: Who influenced you most throughout your career?
YCS Money: Musically, my main homie, YCS Pressi. Dude’s a genius and has taught me a lot. As for the lyrics and where everything comes from I feel that’s really anyone I’ve come across, good or bad in life. Certain situations can make me feel a certain way which will really correlate to my music.
Raptology: If you could only listen to 3 albums for the rest of your life, what would they be?
YCS Money: 2014 Forest Hills Drive by J. Cole, Tha Carter V by Lil Wayne, and Swimming by Mac Miller (s/o Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem).
Raptology: Do you have a bucket list? If so, what’s on it?
YCS Money: Only thing that’s on my bucket list is to buy mom a house on the beach and set my homies and myself up for life!
Raptology: What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
YCS Money: I really wanna be in the position to help people. I really love working with kids, especially ones that suffer from any sort of disabilities. It’s so hard being a kid as it is. I just love helping em! I remember watching stories on Michael Jackson and how much he did for children and being
such a big fan. I feel like that definitely instilled that “want” to help inside of me.
