Brooklyn native Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L releases another two-track project on August 7th, entitled ‘Free Therapy Vol. 1’. This upcoming hip-hop marvel, with a vocal cadence reminiscent of Big Sean and 6LACK, has been making waves in the New York scene, specialising in tongue-in-cheek lyrics that don’t shy away from hedonistic impulses. On ‘Free Therapy Vol. 1’, Breon reaches much darker, more vulnerable depths, taking his sound into a more mature direction.
This dual track release begins with the chilled hip-hop vibe of ‘Space Suit’. A dreamy synth hook line, dark bass and kinetic beat provide the backdrop for Breon’s mellifluous rap flow. In this floaty ode to how much he hates his service industry job, Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L talks about the struggles we all face during our mental preparation while on the way to work. He opens up about his depression and having to suppress it in order to gain the energy to survive at his job. Breon brings up wanting a raise, and gives us a clear image of his daydreams of wishing he could reverse roles with his bosses. He goes on to talk about his anger and having to put on a mask just to make it through another day at the dead-end job.
The second track is ‘Glass’, a stirring and dark ballad that demonstrates Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L’s most nuanced work yet. Brooding piano chords are paired with a slow, pounding beat to form the crux of the song, embellished with spacey synths and subtle guitar riffs. The atmospheric production perfectly complements Breon’s confident, smooth rap and his resonating harmonies. His lyrics are honest and emotive, exploring the topics of a lost love and mental health struggles. As a nod to the earlier fans, ‘Glass’ is an evolution of Breon’s 2019 release ‘Neon Blue (Interlude)’.
Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L began writing as a form of self-recognition, but the floaty ambivalence of his music paired with his agile lyrical abilities immediately caught the ears of the people around him. Producer WhatsHisName, a member of Free Creation Label, provides the otherworldly vibe that lies beneath all of Breon’s stories. Poignant yet playful, Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L and his music are a depiction of a great mind and musical talent at work. This is a hip-hop artist with a dazzling future ahead of him.
