Born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, California, YikeMike has risen to fame as an American music producer, DJ, and businessman. His style is coated in smooth fluid rhythms accentuated by a recurring bass sound which brings a unique energy and substance to the music he produces. This ear and skill he’s developed has propelled him into stardom in the industry. To date, he has collaborated with mainstream artists like Almighty Suspect, Blueface and YBN Nahmir, among others. What is your legal age?
21 years old.
What is your stage name and how did you come up with it?
YikeMike the name came about from dancing at parties back when I was in middle school.
Why did you first start making music?
12 years old I started making music on Magix Music Maker.
Talk me through your creative process.
My creative process started with the type of mood I’m in it could either be chill and vibey or lit snd turnt. That helps me decide what music to create.
Have you heard the theory that some musicians write their best music while they’re depressed or going through a bad time?
Yes I agree some of my best work was made when I was depressed.
What were your grades like at school?
My grades were always good in school my pops would be on my ass aha.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I create chill and vibey music that you can either turn up to or play back to back in a long car ride.
What’s your latest release?
My latest release is “Say Period” by KayDaBandit go listen.
What’s your best advice for handling criticism?
Listen and try to correct the wrongs.
What are you focusing your time on now?
School and my first project EP.
Hulda Hicks was born in Brooklyn, NY in the late ’70s, at the time when Hip-Hop music was just emerging as an art form. Her entire life was influenced by the culture, having grown up in the epicenter of the creative movement.
As a trained musician and vocalist, Hulda got exposed to the industry in her twenties and has worked on projects with iconic figures such as the Chiffons, the Last Poets, and Montell Jordan, to name a few.
