THE AMERICAN DREAM: THE RISE OF FRESH DA ZOE

Widson Pierre, with Haitian upbringings in the capital Port-Au-Prince, is bridging the gap between cultures with the power of his music. His presence in the hip-hop world resonates under the now moniker Fresh Da Zoe. As a kid experiencing the hardships of his country while growing up in a family of seven, Zoe turned to poetry to cope and paint the struggles around him. This brought new light to his writing abilities, and in 2010 would prompt him to migrate to the United States in pursuit of a better lifestyle and a shot at the fabled “American Dream.”

In 2013, after countless sleepless nights and days trying to grasp the English language, opportunity would come knocking at Zoe’s door in the form of a group mate, Patrick Lima. Unbeknownst to Zoe, Patrick was an admirer of his style of writing, and the interaction would lead to Zoe being offered the proposition of forming a hip-hop duo. Zoe accepted the opportunity and they created the rap group ‘Freshman’, where Patrick became Lima, and Widson became Fresh. They would go on to perform in numerous events throughout Massachusetts. Zoe however, was reluctant, as his insecurities due to his Haitian accent weighed heavily. Lima became a source of motivation, inspiring Zoe to accept his accent and incorporate it into his style, rather than try separate himself from it. With his resolve now fully invested in his career as an artist, the duo went on to release their first single, “Get Em,” in 2013. This was a warm up for their following single “Jewlz” which dropped soon after.

Evidently, in 2018 the duo would find some success as ‘Freshman,’ but decide to part ways in order to focus on their solo careers. This move worked to Zoe’s benefit as he set out for the spotlight with the release of his first solo single “No Sleep.” The track was well received by listeners and gave Zoe the momentum he long deserved. He would continue to apply pressure, following up with releases “What We Doing,” “Shake It,” “Voodoo Flow,” and “No Time.” ”Voodoo Flow” is the biggest hit of  Fresh Da Zoe’s, with high impact sound, mixed with his captivating cadence and flow, flavored with his Haitian accent wooed fans over the airwaves. The response garnered was of epic proportions and took Mr. Voodoo Flow to higher heights.

Zoe aims to break the generational curse of his home and show those less fortunate that you can make it out of the mud, using his own life as a testament. This purpose filled inspiration, brought Zoe a publishing deal with Bentley Records in 2019. He is currently focused on expanding his brand as an artist and growing his fan-base.
