HOUSTON – Rapper Boosie Badazz, also known to longtime fans as Lil Boosie, is facing a felony aggravated assault charge in Harris County after authorities accused him of striking a nightclub security guard with a glass hookah during an incident in downtown Houston.

The Baton Rouge rapper, whose legal name is Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr., is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Court records cited by Houston media say the incident happened on May 24 at Privilege nightclub near Main Street as the club was closing during Memorial Day weekend.

According to the allegations described in court records, a woman connected to Hatch’s group tried to use a restroom after the establishment had closed. A security guard reportedly told her the restroom was unavailable and began escorting her out of the club. Investigators allege the situation escalated after the woman became upset and dropped her belongings near the exit.

When the guard bent down, prosecutors allege he was struck in the head with a glass hookah base. The guard later told investigators that he turned around and saw Hatch holding a broken hookah. The security guard was taken to a hospital and reportedly received eight staples for the head injury.

Hatch appeared in Harris County court on Monday, June 1. His bond was set at $85,000, according to local reports. WBRZ reported that the bond was described by his lawyer as a “walk-through bond,” meaning Hatch was not required to remain in custody after the court appearance.

Hatch has publicly denied wrongdoing and called the case a “money grab” in a video posted after the hearing. His legal team has also urged the public not to rush to judgment before evidence, witness accounts, and any available surveillance footage are reviewed.

The case remains pending, and the charge is an allegation at this stage. Hatch has not been convicted in connection with the Houston nightclub incident. He is due back in court on Sept. 15, according to WBRZ.

The Houston case comes as Boosie remains one of the most recognizable voices from Baton Rouge rap, with a career that stretches back to the late 1990s and includes a long catalog of Southern hip-hop releases under the Lil Boosie and Boosie Badazz names.

Raptology will continue to follow the case as additional court records, attorney statements, or hearing updates become available.
