Victoria Monét and John Gaines have officially announced their breakup, sharing the news on September 23 amid speculation about their relationship status. In a joint statement released via social media, the couple addressed rumors of infidelity and toxic behavior, stating that their separation was a mutual decision made to allow for personal growth.
The statement began, “With good intentions, we honestly have been avoiding a formal statement about something as natural and personal as love.” They expressed the challenges they faced in navigating their new paths apart while emphasizing their commitment to co-parenting their three-year-old daughter, Hazel. “We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter,” they wrote.
Monét and Gaines clarified that there was no drama or infidelity involved in their split, simply noting that “it didn’t work out, and that’s okay.” They reiterated their respect and affection for each other, stating that raising Hazel remains their top priority.
The couple concluded their message by asking for privacy as they transition into this new chapter, requesting understanding from fans when they are seen together with Hazel. They expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received and hope for continued goodwill from their community.
Fans first became acquainted with Gaines when he appeared in Monét’s music video for her song “Moment,” which was released in 2020. Monét is set to release the deluxe version of her album JAGUAR II next month, featuring new tracks including collaborations with Usher and Bryson Tiller.
