Since his release from jail, 42 Dugg has become a strong advocate for women in music. He collaborated with Sexyy Red on the track “N.P.O.” from his album 4eva Us Neva Them and suggested during a recent appearance on “The Breakfast Club” that she should work on a project with GloRilla.
In an interview with Billboard published on July 22, Dugg reiterated his support for Sexyy Red, claiming she was unfairly overlooked for the Best New Artist award at the 2024 BET Awards. He expressed his opinion that Tyla should not have won over Sexyy Red, stating, “Hell nah! Then I saw her go up, and I’m like, ‘I ain’t gon’ lie, this motherf**ker cold.’” Dugg acknowledged that while Tyla might have a strong presence, Sexyy Red is also making waves internationally, performing at major events like London’s Wireless Festival and Switzerland’s Frauenfeld Openair.
Dugg highlighted Sexyy Red’s growing popularity, noting her upcoming “Sexyy Red 4 President Tour,” although it currently lacks international dates. He contrasted this with Tyla’s success, which has been fueled by her Grammy-winning single “Water,” which gained significant traction on social media.
In addition to praising Sexyy Red, Dugg mentioned other female artists he admires, including GloRilla, JT, Ice Spice, and acknowledged the vibrant contributions of women in hip hop today. He remarked, “The girls [are] going crazy,” reflecting on the current landscape of the genre.
