Seattle, a city known for its rich musical history, has birthed yet another remarkable talent. Eddie Anthony, born Anthony Koenen, is making waves in the music scene with his unique blend of life experiences, song, and dance. His journey from the Emerald City to the ears of listeners worldwide is nothing short of inspiring.
Eddie Anthony’s stage name is a creative fusion of his given names, a nod to the duality of his identity. “Half my friends call me Anthony, and the other half call me Eddie,” he explains. This duality is reflected in his music, where he seamlessly blends different genres and emotions.
Born and raised in Seattle, Eddie Anthony draws significant inspiration from his hometown. The city’s eclectic music scene has profoundly influenced his sound, making it a vibrant tapestry of rhythms and stories.
Throughout his career, Eddie Anthony has been shaped by key figures who have left an indelible mark on his artistry. Lawrence Wilder, known as Illoquint, has been a pivotal influence, teaching Eddie the critical importance of hooks in music. “Music really is what feelings sound like,” Eddie reflects, crediting Illoquint for this insight.
Another major influence is Zach Barokas, another engineer who has been instrumental in Eddie’s development. Additionally, his cousin Dallas Cooper has been a constant source of valuable feedback, always lending an ear to Eddie’s latest recordings.
Eddie’s work with Detroit producer Jake Bass was a turning point in his career. “When I started working with Jake, I understood how serious he was about playing the piano. That man can play,” Eddie recalls. Together with Atlanta producer Third Coast Chris, Jake Bass contributed to the creation of “Alpha Ghost,” a project that showcased Jake’s cinematic piano skills.
One of the latest tracks in Eddie Anthony’s discography is “Janitor,” a song born out of an unexpected challenge. A friend named Dan Burton dared Eddie to create a song with the title “Janitor” after witnessing Eddie’s amused reaction to an attractive janitor cleaning an office. Rising to the challenge, Eddie teamed up with longtime friend and producer Billy Patron to craft the music production for “Janitor.”
The song took an intriguing turn when Eddie decided to replace his final verse with a feature from singer Julie Schatz. “I like the way she writes and her unique vocal tone. NYC has a gem in Julie,” Eddie says, praising her contribution to the track.
Eddie Anthony’s music is a reflection of his life, filled with genuine emotion and infectious energy. His ability to draw from personal experiences and translate them into captivating songs is what sets him apart in the music industry. Whether it’s the influence of his mentors, the collaboration with talented producers, or the daring creation of unique tracks like “Janitor,” Eddie’s journey is a testament to his creativity and resilience.
As he continues to evolve as an artist, Eddie Anthony remains rooted in his Seattle origins, always striving to create music that resonates with his audience. With his talent, passion, and unwavering dedication, there’s no doubt that Eddie Anthony is a name to watch in the music world.
