On May 8, Vogue shared an original short story created by Cardi B for the 2024 Met Gala, titled “The Little Diva That Could.” In the clip posted on TikTok, Cardi narrated the tale, describing a “little queen” who wanted to “slay” at the event and went through various looks before finding the perfect ensemble. Cardi concluded the story by saying, “This is not no ‘[Little] Red Riding Hood.’ Here in Manhattan, we have ‘The Little Diva That Could,’ but you couldn’t… You couldn’t. See you next year.”
Cardi B attended the 2024 Met Gala on May 6 in a voluminous black gown from designer Sensen Lii of Windowsen. The dress, which took around two months to create, was floral in design and used nearly 3,000 meters of organza, with an inner and outer layer. This year’s Met Gala theme was “The Garden of Time,” paying homage to J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story.
In the past, Cardi B and her stylist, Kollin Carter, have reflected on her previous Met Gala looks. For the 2023 event, which honored Karl Lagerfeld, they wanted to pay tribute to the late designer while incorporating elements of Chanel. Carter also shared that Cardi’s 2019 Met Gala look “broke Cardi B into the next level of the fashion world,” as people who didn’t take them seriously were forced to acknowledge their presence in the fashion industry.
