The current generation of rappers that are coming up are doing justice to the Memphis name and one such rapper is blazing a trail to the top. Young Dolph protégé and cousin turned brother, Key Glock
But his rise to stardom has been littered with legal trouble, death, and pain. With the recent passing of his brother Dolph, we’re going to take a look at the life of Key Glock and after the vid you’d realize why he’s the next to run Memphis. Let’s chop it up and break it down.
Home to South Memphis, Markeyvius Cathey aka Key Glock was just a kid when he lost his single mother to the prison system https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (1:16-1:34) He was only 16 months when she was locked away for 15 years and his father was in and out, never really their at his side. His mom, Tameika Cathey ain’t called Moma Glock for nothing, she was really with it when it came to providing for her family.
Wanting better for her son, she needed something more than doing hair in her kitchen. The streets provided a solution, so she took it and everything went smooth the first couple times. But you know how the streets do, to gain something you’ve got to lose something in return, and the streets took her freedom. While hitting a lick with some girlfriends cops caught her lackin and sentenced her to 15 years behind bars no bond, straight time. She held it down like a G, and did her bid https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (4:34-5:22) Key Glock was left with no one, but grandma’s always come to the rescue and she came through clutch for the fam.
She basically raised him through his childhood but without his parents there, she could only keep him away from the streets so much https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (7:50-7:59) As a child he was already seeing the hash realities of life. With his moms bouncing around from prison to prison throughout her sentence, Key Glock was traveling for every visitation https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (5:28-5:57)
The longer his family was torn apart the closer Key Glock grew to the streets. At age 6 he was already playing with sticks, no pause https://youtu.be/bt465MBYW3Q (0:12-0:16) that’s how much the streets was built into his fiber. Glock was acting out in school even to teachers https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (11:16-11:57) and who could blame him, he was in an environment no kid should be placed in, but that’s the life for many families just trying to find a way out https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (0:24-0:44)
Even through all this, Glock was holding it down for Mama Glock while gaining notoriety in the streets https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (0:16-0:45) https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (6:35-7:01) Hip hop wasn’t even on a young Glock’s mind but when he came unto artists like Three 6 Mafia, Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane it lit a flame secretly inside that would set wild fire on the game later in his life https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (2:08-2:16) https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (1:10-1:20) His first official track, “Actin” https://youtu.be/76-RxIjX3gA was released in 2013 when he was in 8 or 9th grade https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (3:27-3:45)
But Glock was going through it, seeing kids with their parents and he had nothing. Glock himself said how much it used to eat him up inside https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (3:57-4:32) https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (6:17-6:27) https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (10:35-11:03) but Glock got his best friend back on April 16th 2014 when moms was a free woman again https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (8:24-9:55) https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (10:07-10:19) His moms was coming home was like the trigger for him to go hard and blow up, like the hole in his heart was finally filled https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (9:58-10:25) https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (8:10-8:20)
But even though Glock was more focused and beginning to dabble more in music, the streets is where his name was stamped and approved https://youtu.be/APXV02pkGHk (0:37-0:55) That street affiliation would come back to haunt him at 18 years old when he was finally apprehended by the law. Sad thing he was now doubling down on music working on his mixtape “Whole Lotta Errthang”
March 2016, The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office arrested Key Glock in a shooting at a local nightclub where three people, two women and one man, were injured by shrapnel from the gunshot. It’s reported Glock opened fire into at the Ice Bar and Grill located at Hack Cross road, south of Highway 385.
An arrest warrant would go out for Markeyvius Cathey aka Key Glock and he would be caught and charged with three counts of aggravated assault.
He would serve 90’s in the pen before being back out on the street.

Key Glock would get his head in the game, still in the streets but more on the music. Still not 100 percent on pursuing that career but everyone around him heard his talent and pushed him in that direction. I think music was fate, because the right person was right in his life, Young Dolph. Dolph and Key Glock are actually blood cousins
But Key Glock had an independent mindset. So even if him and Dolph were like brothers eating and chilling at their uncle and aunty crib, he never tried to eat off Dolph plate through music https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (4:13-4:43) But Dolph was a real one and he saw the grind and work ethic of Glock and instead reached out to help put him on https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (4:44-4:55) From then forward Glock learned the trade and business from Dolph and it was up from there https://youtu.be/6kv30DmSK_8 (4:56-5:10) https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (25:42-26:15)
Glock was on the right path to blowing up, and he wasn’t pulling no punches. Bangers were being dropped back to back to back. From Glock Season
To Glock Bond
Glockoma
Sun of a Gun
And his most recent Yellow Tape 2 that went #1 on Apple Charts for hip hop albums https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (1:20-2:03) https://twitter.com/raphubdaily/status/1456822950703808516
Beside that, him and Dolph were killing it with freestyles and project releases https://youtu.be/ujoswUFpvM0 (4:53-5:53) https://youtu.be/X2GGmGtPjZI https://youtu.be/SEFBE4IwSok
Their tapes Dum & Dummer and Dum & Dummer 2 were going crazy in the streets
It was happening, the dream was real, making bank doing it big for the city and his loved ones https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (1:54-2:41) Key Glock was on top of the world and killing shows like Rolling Loud https://youtu.be/8pqTit64MSs (4:41-5:03) This was his life and he was finna live it and give fans the best show every time even on a broken leg https://youtu.be/p1RTtVJ0830 (2:30-2:35) https://youtu.be/eOovilWVN1c (0:16-1:00) https://youtu.be/IDRgVdVCaIw (0:55-1:05) https://youtu.be/s8X05CaD3vI
Glock really just like Dolph in a way, they both got that same humble mentality even though they stars. They never forget Memphis and always remember the city https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (13:27-14:44) But just like Dolph that good heart can up the score if someone tries him https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (14:17-14:27) And that was the case with CMG affiliate, Lil Migo https://youtu.be/jRq4rCjI57M (2:00-2:35)
The two often got into it online, going back and forth dissing each other https://youtu.be/IvzQjfFXaBI (1:43-2:13) https://youtu.be/IvzQjfFXaBI (3:43-4:19) https://youtu.be/IvzQjfFXaBI (4:26-4:57) https://youtu.be/IvzQjfFXaBI (6:40-7:41)
Things soon started escalating to where talks were coming up about banning dudes from the hood and inciting smoke https://youtu.be/IvzQjfFXaBI (2:202:41)
Key Glock wasn’t going to backdown and pulled up ready for it https://youtu.be/wYo4nKMism0 (0:18-0:41) While that beef was brewing, Glock was keeping up the pressure on another ends, CMG artist Blac Youngsta
Key Glock was a rider, you know Dolph had it out for Gotti and Blac Youngsta in their beef where an attempted hit failed twice on his life
Key Glock wasn’t backing down for his homie and brother. Blac Youngsta dropped a track “I Met Tay Keith First” https://youtu.be/Nt4ex2_JewY What many didn’t know was that this was a subliminal at Glock who knew Tay Keith from high school days and collabed with him when he came up. If you don’t believe me, look at how quick Key Glock was to hop in the comments and call cap at Blac Youngsta promoting the track
Glock wasn’t with the foolery and as far as he’s concerned, either you with PRE or against them https://youtu.be/dOaefgcQS3s (17:59-18:05) and he always rolled strapped with a couple hitters around him for the occasion https://youtu.be/0bfrHDeBafg (2:29-3:02)
It was only a matter of time though before the law cracked down on him again and he got arrested in 2019 after killing his performance at Rolling Loud https://youtu.be/X46k5WJeuzo
Glock was arrested on charges for carrying a concealed firearm, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and “cannabis poss more than 20 gr/armed, the first two carrying serious jail time as they are prosecuted as third-degree felonies in the state of Florida.
His bail was set at $17,500 and Glock posted out and got back to business with his music https://youtu.be/aXiFVBzihgo
https://www.complex.com/music/2019/05/key-glock-reportedly-arrested-on-weapons-drug-charges
He was enjoying his life with his bro Young Dolph, doing all types of shenanigans. From smashing his camo whip windshield to dumping cake in Dolph’s face, pause. It was cool seeing two hood dudes making it out and being happy enjoying their fame yet still so humble https://youtu.be/A-9JGppTqRw (0:20-1:00) https://youtu.be/IqPUFFosp_I (0:19-0:47) https://youtu.be/aUpKWdVaylA https://youtu.be/DCTeEfdv8D4 (0:21-0:28) https://youtu.be/C8GKu5oQlWI
Everything seemed all good. Key Glock was signed to PRE and taking over the industry with his bro living his best life https://youtu.be/QaWNjgDLh_U
But on Wednesday November 17th Young Dolph lost his life in a targeted hit from the opps while at his favorite bakery, Makeda’s Homemade Butter https://youtu.be/PMMSFkHgmQ4
Just like that, Key Glock’s world came crashing down. He went into a state of depression trying to cope with the pain. He deleted his Instagram and moved out of Memphis
Key Glock went ghost. Images would later surface of Key Glock brought to tears at a Young Dolph Celebration of Life event
Just looking at the pain in bro eyes you can tell he going through hell. He really lost a real brother, mentor, and friend. It would be a while again before Glock broke his silence, first to lash out to everyone asking if he’s okay
Second to finally let it all out and speak on the hurt felt from Dolph’s passing
Glock was losing so many loved ones around him. His pops, auntie, grandma Glock and now Dolph. It was hard to see him go through that grief, but he was gonna stand on everything for Dolph and bro popped back online to hit back with a banger that was straight fire and emotion with the single “Proud” https://youtu.be/8NeFPEAu9CA
Memorializing Dolph in a tattoo on his arm, Glock made a promise to never let Dolph’s memory die and to carry PRE to the top
Those responsible for Dolph’s hit have also began to meet their downfall. Currently, cops have arrested 3 suspects and they are awaiting trial. Even karma sliding for Dolph
Key Glock has endured a lot and there’s no telling how he’s going to overcome the pain from losing Dolph, but he’s one strong dude and keeping it thorough to take over the industry for Dolph https://youtu.be/2_yQTrRO-mE (11:09-11:20) With one last shot at the blogs, he let it be known he’s not with any of the goofies getting clout on Dolph’s name and promoting negativity
I’m looking forward to where Glock’s going, and I believe it’s to the top. Dolph would surely be proud.
So there you have it. Thanks for kicking it with yah boy, appreciate the love and support. Show some love and support to Key Glock. Send up yah prayers, death ain’t easy, much less someone so close. Catch ya’ll in the next one. Fly high Paper Route Frank https://youtu.be/XOWUIEE8sfU (0:02-0:33)
