Hard work pays off. Not always. Sometimes, you put in a lot of effort only to find yourself reaping no rewards at the end. However, that is not the case for the artists we’ll be talking about today. Coming at us from New York City, one of the biggest and most exciting hip hop and rap scenes active today, these two artists are young and motivated. They’ve got a song to sing and a message to send out. And with their latest track, a moving collaborative piece, they intend to tell it.
That’s right, music lovers, today we’re having a look at this fresh new collab between Day G and Tick Tock Q, two very hard-working artists whose song, “Rolling High”, is both chill and evocative at the same time.
For the better part of the track, we’re taken to this chill suite, where two couples are spending a relaxed afternoon together, smoking and drinking. All in all, just having a good time, basically. The song, through laid-back beats and a melodic, flowing atmosphere sets the scene perfectly for this. And it’s exactly this first part of the song, the one in which you just kinda get to kick back and relax, that makes it a perfect summer tune, even if it’s summer no longer.
It’s chill and happy and it makes you feel good.
But then you got the second part, where Tick Tock Q comes in, on an angrier and more rap mood (whereas Day G’s section was more melodic and closer to a hip hop vibe). This rapped section takes on a darker tone as Tick Tock Q sings about the George Floyd incident that sparked so much controversy across the United States in recent months.
This fascinating duality is what makes the song stand out from the crowd, and it’s what will, presumably, help these two accomplished artists make it big in due time. It puts the current situation in a very interesting perspective, and it sends out the message that both Day G and Tick Tock Q have something powerful to say.
A message through music, that’s what “Rolling High” is, and I highly recommend that you go figure out the message – stream the track on Apple and Spotify right now, music lovers.
